The Bar Method Celebrates One Year Anniversary in Downtown Highland Park
October 1st, 2009 in General Interest
Catherine Wendel, Co-owner, The Bar Method Highland Park
On October 2nd we will celebrate our one year anniversary in Highland Park by rewarding our most loyal clients with a free unlimited 30-day package. As always, we offer new clients the chance to try The Bar Method for 30 days unlimited for only $100. If you come 3-5 times a week you will see a dramatic change in your body.
We chose Highland Park for our second location in the Chicago area because we wanted to be in the North Shore and Highland Park was the prime demographic and size. The women and men in this area are active and passionate about the latest effective body sculpting techniques. The Bar Method thrives in this type of area because clients are both health conscious and body aware.
As we celebrate our one year anniversary in Highland Park, we are pleased to hear our clients say that they’ve never seen such body changes (and they have tried everything else). The truth about The Bar Method is that it works!

Edible Landscaping
July 23rd, 2009 in General Interest
Larry King, Highland Park City Forester
This year the City of Highland Park has incorporated edible landscaping into the decorative plantings in Downtown Highland Park. If you're on Sheridan Road just north of Central Avenue, keep an eye out for a bed of dwarf variety sweet corn, cherry tomatoes and green bell peppers outside of the Baird & Warner real estate office. Our contractor first came up with the idea when we were brainstorming ways to add height to the landscaping and he suggested corn. We decided to go ahead with it because edible landscaping isn't more expensive than traditional landscaping and we wanted to do something a little different; to push the envelope. It's all about the "ah-ha" value. We braced ourselves for negative comments but ended up with all positive. We first tried edible landscaping three years ago but unfortunately, the last crop didn't make it to harvest. This year we would like to donate whatever is collected to a local food pantry or charity. It is possible that in future years we may expand the scope of the project beyond its current location by planting herbs in plots throughout the Downtown, although we want to keep the project relatively small to maintain its uniqueness.

Home Grown Highland Park
March 2nd, 2009 in General Interest
As I stroll down Laurel Avenue, I pass the Highland Park Library and head to City Park Grill for the best mozzarella sticks ever! “Did I return that book?” I wonder. My sister and I used to walk around downtown Highland Park with our Mother’s blessing, and while I may not need my mother for that anymore, I still enjoy nothing more than walking around this great city of ours.
I learned at an early age that I could pretty much go anywhere in Highland Park and have a full-out adventure, starting at Sunset Foods and ending at Ravinia Festival.
While independence at a young age in Highland Park was partially achieved through the generosity of our parents, my sister and I also began working at young ages. She would go over to Tales & Toys after school and I would go to Bergie’s Sports Card Dugout, both of us learning the value of a dollar at a young age.
There was no apple pancake from Walker Brothers, no piece of candy from Ross’s, and no hot dog from Michael’s Chicago Style Red Hots we couldn’t afford. Indeed, we had it made.
Summers at Port Clinton Square were the best, always filled with live music. At night we’d make our pilgrimage to Dairy Queen, which was always worth the wait.
My father would often take us into Uncle Dan’s on the weekend so we could prepare for spontaneous camping trips filled with moments I won’t soon forget. When we wanted a great cup of matzo ball soup, we’d head over to Once Upon A Bagel. When we wanted great Mexican food, Hot Tamales always seemed to be there for us.
No matter what we had our hearts desire set on, we always seemed to get it in Highland Park.
